Coaching has been a part of my life for a long time. Having spent many years in the corporate world, I moved into the charity and non-profit sector to work in Executive Recruitment and coaching. Working with candidates and organisations recruiting C-level positions, a lot of my candidate focus was coaching those moving from a corporate or military background into the Charity Sector. It was whilst working in partnership with some of our charity clients that I began working closely with the Deaf Community. I qualified as a British Sign Language Interpreter, and continue to work with the Deaf Community and professionals in many different environments, including the NHS, DWP, education, social services, and therapeutic services. This includes both coaching and interpreting work.
I have an MA in Psychosynthesis Psychology, and after initially considering changing lanes to become a psychotherapist, I realised that coaching was a much better fit for me and went on to gain my psychosynthesis coaching diploma and EMCC accreditation.
When you look beneath the job titles, the common theme is connection with people, and how we communicate. It’s this that really motivates and moves me. It comes from working with and supporting clients from all walks of life and backgrounds and their differing experiences and aspirations. Life is hectic and we can often lose ourselves in the day to day noise and pressure to perform. Helping clients find time for themselves is never boring and continues to fascinate, challenge and surprise me all these years later. I believe that it all starts with our relationships and communication – with loved ones, peers and colleagues and most importantly with ourselves.
