Simon Dolan

I have over 30 years of professional experience within the pharmaceutical industry having recently retired in May 2016. During my career, I have held a number of positions of increasing responsibility, latterly as a Senior Director in Research and Development (15 years) leading a department (50 scientists at peak) in Stevenage, focussed on the late stage development of new medicines. I have extensive experience of the leadership of people at a departmental/divisional level and have lead significant technology change projects with multifunctional teams (80-100 staff) based globally at our R&D and Manufacturing sites in the UK, USA and Asia. I also have a wide range of experience of the transfer of many products across GSK internal global manufacturing networks and externally with third party suppliers. I have worked in research, development and manufacturing, both in the UK and in the USA (North Carolina). I therefore have a very broad background in discovering and developing new medicines and the commercial drivers for launching new products. My own leadership transitions from leading self, leading through others to leading teams of leaders in a complex environment, provide a significant resource from which to understand the commercial and personal pressures that clients are under and provide context for more meaningful coaching conversations. Having worked across different cultures, organisations and disciplines managing expectations, political agendas and delivering significant products to tight timelines/budgets, I can understand and empathise with many of the professional and personal development issues clients have presented to me.
